“Concrete Angel”

This song has come to mean so much to me. It brought me to sobbing tears the first few times I heard it. I have listed the lyrics below. For me, I see this song as me standing outside of myself, singing it to myself, to the me that needed to hear to, the me that was hiding and built up such strong walls around myself to the point where I couldn’t see myself anymore. I thought of it today after writing back and forth with a fellow blogger. I am posting it for her (I hope she knows who she is) and for everyone who needs to hear what I heard.

There is a point in the song that says, “I over getting over you”.  I felt this so strongly!  I was tired of the pained me, tired of the darkness, even though I couldn’t see my way out at the time. I truly was over getting over me! I didn’t recognize myself anymore! But instead of taking it to a dark place, I took it to a place of light, of hope. It was up to me to change my life, my thoughts, my self-doubt. I hope you find something in this song too.

“Concrete Angel”

with Christina Novelli

Let me breath you in, and breath the words in your mouth,
inside your shivering, the silence shouts so loud.
I just want to, I just want to stay around,
and while my heart beats I promise I won’t let you down.

If you keep building these walls,
brick by brick towers so tall,
soon I won’t see you at all,
until the concrete angel falls,
I knew who you were from the start,
but now I don’t know who you are,
soon there’ll be nothing at all, until the concrete angel falls.

If I’m somewhere else it doesn’t mean that I don’t see
that you don’t trust yourself, that’s why you don’t trust me/
It makes me crazy, when you’re crazy, you don’t speak
you think you know me
but what you know is just skin deep.

If you keep building these walls,
brick by brick towers so tall,
soon I won’t see you at all,
until the concrete angel falls,
I knew who you were from the start,
but now I don’t know who you are,
soon there’ll be nothing at all, until the concrete angel falls.

It’s twisting your mind, I’m not getting through,
cause I don’t see it like you do.
There’s nothing to find, you’ve got no excuse.
I’m over getting over you! I’m over getting over you,
cause I don’t see it like you do,
I’m over getting over you. I’m over getting over you.

If you keep building these walls,
brick by brick towers so tall,
soon I won’t see you at all,
until the concrete angel falls,
I knew who you were from the start,
but now I don’t know who you are,
soon there’ll be nothing at all, until the concrete angel falls.

  1. I love this. I had never heard this song and now I can’t listen to it enough. It reminds me of a much younger version of myself. Walls were a way of protection or so I thought. Thanks for this post. It is very insightful. I’m glad you were able to knock down your walls.

    1. I am so happy you like it! It was something I knew I must share. I still can’t get through it without choking up. I am still working at knocking down the walls; they sure don’t come down easily OR quickly, but I will keep hacking away at them. I deserve it!
